Plans to revise the university minimal entry grade for the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are underway.
The plan to raise university minimal direct entry and increase of freights is of great public interest amidst the harsh profitable conditions.
Public Universities for numerous times have appeared in the news captions for wrong reasons similar as striking lecturers demanding for better pay or overdue hires, fiscal extremity among others.

The public universities in the country are beggared. Their accretive debts hit Sh56.1 billion according to report which was released in June 2022.
To regain universities from their current fiscal extremity, several ways have been proposed by education experts, one of them being raising of university minimal entry grade.
On the other hand, university heads have putting spirited sweats to end the current fiscal extremity.
The sustainability extremity that has dogged universities for further than two decades calls for the government, the institutions and education stakeholders to come together to search for long lasting solution.

Presently, the minimal university entry grade is a C+. Learners who score a C+ in KCSE qualifies for University direct entry and government backing unlike other times when the government noway patronized C+, B- and B plain grades.
The public university vice-chancellors have presented a offer to the government contending the direct university entry grade to be grounded on the available government budget.
Still, also it means not every pupil who scores a C+ should gain access to automatic government backing, If this offer passes.

The University heads further proposed that education freights be raised from the current, Sh16,000 for state- patronized scholars to Sh24,000.
Experts have revealed that public universities can only start operating typically if the number of government patronized scholars is reduced to the budget the government can go, while those left out to join varsity via the module two or resemblant program.
The flat rate freights of Sh16,000 for government patronized scholars was introduced in the 1980s.
