It has been a moment of joy for Lawrence Muthemi after the principal Kanguru boys accepted him back to school. He had been rejected at the school gate on 19th May due to lack of fees, something that led well wishers to come in and salvage the situation.
Education system is becoming a little expensive for low income families. To attend a good school, extra county or national School, you must part with some good amount of cash.
In Embu, it has been a moment of joy for a mother and son after the boy was finally admitted to school for form one. This is after they made to the school on Thursday 19th May with a cockerel instead of school fees, but the school administration rejected it sending them back home.
The duo were unable to contain their tears. They were seen to be in desperation and disappointed. Muthemi could not wait to see his dreams shattered so easily.
When the issue went to social media, a good number of kindhearted kenyans had to come in and help the single mother and son get support for starting another level of academic life.
Some of the well-wishers include the Kameme TV presenter Muthee Kiengei and thankfully, the boy is finally back to school. He was admitted the following day.
Everybody was happy to receive Muthemi in Kanguru boys high school, including the principal Mr Koech, who even helped the boy to fit his new school shoes.
The school staff was also spotted happy and welcoming when Lawrence came back to school.
The mother and boy hugged each other happily, tears of joy running down their cheeks; the joy of achieving first step to academic ladder.
Muthemi had come to school with his old uniform for primary school and slippers. Two days later, he is now in full uniform as the rest of Kanguru boys.
Many young people especially kids who recently completed their primary school have got challenges of achieving their dreams due to poverty. Despite doing well in KCPE, the high demand in secondary schools is unaffordable.
Everyone is asked to encourage such youngsters positively whenever you meet them, and even offer a helping hand where you can.
