Description of the flag
Nairobi County’s flag, which was espoused on August 23, 2013, is a cubebi-colour with a dark green background and a unheroic triangle with its base at the hoist reaching into the cover. The guard from the County Arms is deposited in the unheroic triangle towards the hoist. A gold captain ‘ rampant guardant ’ from the county Arms appears in the upper cover.
The flag is described in the Nairobi City County Flag and Other Symbols Bill( 2013) as follows:
- The Shield, as contained in the Court of Arms, is a symbol of substance, openings, Justice and cornucopia the good quality of life Nairobi has to offer.
- The unheroic “ path ” represents the forward- thinking and leadership position of Nairobi City County within the region and the African mainland. It symbolizes substance and hopes the County offers its residers.
- The Green “ curtains ” are emblematic of a new dawn for the megacity where substance thrives. It brings out enlightenment of a people who are ready for each new day.
- The Golden Lion is a symbol of majesty, leadership, strength and courage. Always facing forward( right), it also represents the County Leadership as valorously moving the megacity and its people towards a prosperous future( as directed by the unheroic path).
The flag design is identical to that of Namibia’s President, while the captain emblem is analogous to that of Kenya’s colonizer ensigns. The guard is grounded on the Nairobi City Coat of Arms.
The County Court of Arms is the sanctioned hallmark of Nairobi City County and consists of the Font, Rings, Cranes, Shield, Ground and Grass, as well as a strip and swatch- line.
These rudiments combine to form a symbol of oneness, leadership, courage, wealth, cornucopia, justice and quality, and occasion for Nairobi City County residers and callers.
