After months of studying for long hours and writing the final Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam, Form Four leavers have a lot of time at their disposal.

What the learners do with that time is mostly at discretion of their parents.

While most of these Form Four leavers will remain largely engaged with home chores, some take short courses as they await for their results and subsequently join the tertiary education institutions.

Our team has compiled a list of short courses the Form Four leavers can pursue before joining their universities, colleges or technical training institutions of their choice.

Certified Public Accountants (CPA)

CPA is a very popular course in Kenya. The accounting course is offered in six modules by the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB).

While awaiting to join their preferred colleges, Form Four leavers with interests in the world of accounting can begin with the first few modules before transitioning to institutions of higher learning.

Pursuing a CPA course before being admitted to campus can boost their professional portfolio. The course can be taken in different colleges including the Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) which admits hundreds of students annually.

Foreign Languages

Having a second international language is an advantage in any career field. The demand for individuals who are multi-lingual is on the rise.

Taking an additional language be it as a beginner or intermediary boosts your career growth. It also gives you a competitive edge over your peers when it comes to careers in the international market.

Studying another language additionally exposes people to different cultures, religions and history and this fosters an appreciation to the people associated with the language.

Form Four leavers can explore this vast field by applying and pursuing second languages such as French, German, Spanish or even Arabic in institutions like Goethe Institute, Alliance Francaise or Jamia Training Institute.

Driving

Driving is a great skill set to add to your portfolio and it is a great way for form four leavers to learn how to be responsible on the road. Organisations such as the Automotive Association of Kenya (AA-Kenya) are some of the oldest accredited institutions to learn driving.

Music training is not only a good skill to acquire but learning how to play an instrument teaches an individual how to work consistently for a good amount of time.

It is a great way to learn perseverance. Places like the Kenya Conservatoire of Music offer professional music classes.
