Kenyans went to the ballot on August 9, 2022 to elect the president, governors, senators, woman representatives, Member of Parliament and members of the county assembly.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on August 15 announced the presidential results.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto the President-elect after he garnered 7,176,141 votes.

He was followed closely by his Azimio counterpart Raila Odinga who got 6,942,930 votes which is 48.85 per cent of the vote.
After the declaration, IEBC officially gazetted the new President-elect and his deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua.
Assumption of office committee preparations are underway to ensure smooth transition of power from the outgoing President to the President-elect to assume office.

Steps for swearing in of the President-elect:
The swearing in of the President-elect shall be in public before the Chief Justice, and in the absence of the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice.
The President-elect shall be sworn in on the first Tuesday, 14 days after the date of the declaration of the result of the presidential election, if no petition has been filed under Article 140.
If a petition is filled, swearing in will be on the seventh day following the date on which the court renders a decision declaring the election to be valid.

The President-elect assumes office by taking and subscribing the oath of affirmation of allegiance, and the oath or affirmation for the execution of the functions of office, as prescribed in the Third Schedule.
The ceremony will be in Nairobi and is strictly statute regulated to happen between 10am and 12pm.

The day of the swearing in is to be declared a public holiday.
Deputy President-elect will be sworn in on the same day as then President-elect before the Chief Justice or the deputy Chief Justice.
