Today, the cabinet secretary for interior security Dr. Fred Matiang’i announced a 30-day curfew in the whole of Marsabit region. The curfew will run from 6pm to 6am throughout the month.
This comes after subsequent and uncontrolled attacks that have always been experienced in various parts of the county.
According to the CS, there has been terror attacks in several places of Marsabit, especially Komu sub-county in Isiolo. This is a point he noted has had illegal mining that is supporting terrorism in those parts.
Speaking to the nation this afternoon, Matiang’i noted that there are several fire arms and ammunition illegally owned by the people of Komu sub-county. This is even making it difficult to curb the sadden attacks by the terrorists.
The raid majorly targets on livestock. This means that those who can’t easily accept lose of their livestock are forced to lose their lives by the bandits.
This comes after the nation has put several measures to ensure it’s people are safe and can strive with daily living in a peaceful environment.
More security forces have also been assigned to such regions that experience daily attacks. Some officers are even forced to be in casual wear with the intelligence group (CID) taking the lead.
More police stations have been instituted with an increased officer allocation in such centres, courtesy of Matiang’i. He even noted that the dawn to dusk curfew will help restore peace and be as an aid to the security personnel to patrol around.
In the past, several attacks have been suspected and prevented in Marsabit. The bandits have organized groups and intelligence team amongst themselves, who are fetching information from the security forces on the government plans concerning such attacks.
This intelligence team is respected and trusted by the bandits, since the team is what advices on where, when and how to do the invasion.
More strategies are yet to be put in place until the situation is restored to normalcy.
