A middle-aged man was apprehended in the county of Kisii for allegedly molesting a nine-year-old girl.
The 40-year-old cobbler defiled the young girl as she brought her shoes to be repaired on Saturday evening; he has since been arrested and is awaiting charges.
Her ordeal began when her mother sent her on an all-too-familiar errand.
The man identified as Evans Orara Ombeki is then alleged to have sexually assaulted the girl before asking her to leave and return home with the shoes.
According to her father, he received a call at work informing him that his daughter had been sexually assaulted.

Her condition upon admission to the hospital, according to the doctors who treated her, was so grave that she required surgery.
She had suffered a second-degree tear, so they had to transport her to the operating room to have it repaired. Dr. Angela Ogendi, Kisii Refferal Hospital said.
Evans was well-known to the victim’s family, and his actions have taken them by surprise.
Human rights activists in the county condemned the act and demanded prompt investigations and prosecution of the suspect, who is currently in police custody awaiting arraignment.
