Following an increase in security cases, the government ordered a 30- day dusk- to- dawn curfew in Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, and West Pokot counties on Tuesday, June 7th.
The government issued a 30- day curfew and launched a large disarming crusade in Kerio Valley and other North Rift areas destroyed by banditry attacks on Friday, June 3rd.
The government has exhausted all options, according to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, and the moment has come to deal with the controversies in the Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Baringo counties with unknown firmness.
According to the cabinet secretary, the National Security Council (NSC) approved the order and operation in order to have an escalated operation analogous to that in Marsabit County.
He also said that the days for the bandits is numbered, and will come to an end sooner than they expect. It will be an operation as never before. He even noted that him and his team are going to camp in the affected area with full force, until a state of nomalcy is attained.
