Six students accused of raping a 16-year-old girl have been arraigned in court for a rape case.

The suspects, who are aged between 13 and 17 years are accused of rape and indecency with their colleague student.

The juveniles committed the crime on end of last month at 6:00 pm, Senior Magistrate Judge Iman Muguongo said on Monday.

The court heard that one of the suspects, identified as the victim’s neighbor and a school mate , had taken her to their home.

He locked her in a room at home before raping her with alleged friends.

A police report filed in court shows that after the incident, the victim did not disclose what happened until the day after when she reported to school.

The deputy principal, who was named as one of the witnesses in court, had taken the victim to hospital where she was diagnosed with serious injuries on her private parts.

“The minor had been admitted and is in good condition,” part of the document reads.

But the accused denied the allegations, which they called “framework”.

Through their lawyers, the suspects asked for their release, saying the arrest would interfere with their studies.

Defending the charge, Mr Ngugi told the court that one of the suspects was a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidate who was supposed to attend several classes in preparation for Exam.

Prosecutors opposed the bond request, arguing that releasing the defendant would further aggravate the victim.

“Since some of the suspects have shared the neighborhood with the victim, I want the court to issue a victim impact assessment report before granting bail,” the prosecutor said.

The court order stated that the charges are serious offenses and the accused cannot be released without a probation report.

“Meanwhile, the suspects will be detained at Children’s jail pending reports,” he said.

The judge said the “framework” charges could only be raised and resolved at trial.

The trial continues on November 11.
